“The Gulf Tragedy Unfolds and Continues Its Damage”

It was with great horror, that I watched the news on April 20, 2010, and the weeks following this disaster. The responsibility was heavy on my shoulders to find a way to help the people and animals in the Gulf Coast area. I knew the damage that was taking place to their own physical well being. This was not poisoning just the environment, wildlife, sea life and plants. This damage creates long term problems with risk for cancer and other deadly diseases.

As a Homeopathic Physician, I knew that a remedy was possible, but only if it included the contaminated waters. Could I rely on someone else to care enough to make sure they collected the water properly? Well, the only way to know for sure is to do the job yourself!

Leaving New Mexico on June 1, 2010, I drove through Texas and Louisiana to Gulfport, Mississippi. There I interviewed people on the beach and collected my water samples. It was tragic to see children and their parents playing in the water. At this time, reports were already in about tar balls washing up on the beaches of Pensacola, FL, further east than Gulfport.

At every restaurant, gas station and hotel, I asked the people I met what they thought of this continuing disaster. Some were afraid to talk with me, but the many who did, shared their outrage and frustration.

The horrors seen from the massive oil contamination of the beaches and waters, showed carpets of death.  Dead bodies of birds and sea life, on these waters, beaches and coastlines we shown in the early news reports. The black oil was everywhere. It was in the water, on the beaches and covering the poor, helpless creatures. The lack of action on the part of our own government imparted a surreal quality. How in the world could nothing be done?

Reports of illness had been coming in, of volunteers trying to clean birds of the deadly oil. Many could not continue because of headaches, nausea and gastrointestinal upset. Even reporters on the scene experienced the very same symptoms. Yet why was British Petroleum refusing to allow the cleanup workers to wear respirators and protective suits? The ugly answer seemed all too clear. If proper protective gear was worn, then the extreme dangers facing the population along the Gulf Coast had to be officially acknowledged.

Oil has many components, including benzene, toluene, and hydrogen sulfide to name the most dangerous. After long term or concentrated exposure, symptoms for us, our pets and other mammals may range from:

Headaches that last an unusual length of time

Burning of the skin, eyes, nose, throat and lungs

Runny eyes and coughing up of mucus

Excessive coughing that can progress to bronchial and lung infection and damage

Confusion, difficulty thinking and with coordination

Bleeding from the nose and rectum, as well as internally.

Pay attention to changes in elimination

There can be loss of hair and thickening of the skin, as well as rashes, peeling and itching

Potential for organ damage and degenerative changes to the body

We must be good detectives and thorough observers for our pets. That means watching closely to see if their appetite is affected, if they are sleeping more, not socializing and have tender areas to the touch. Note this information and check gently. Your happy and playful kitty or dog may become withdrawn and have no interest in eating.

Please be sure to keep a diary to chart all the symptoms for yourselves and your pets. Write what makes it better and what makes it worse. Just as you might see your child smile more brightly and skip and play, when feeling better, the same will take place with our dogs and cats. Where they had been quiet and off on their own, as symptoms improve, their interaction with us and other pets will increase.

Corexit, has been used extensively as a dispersant to break the oil up into small molecules, mainly for cosmetic purposes, i.e. less big plumes of oil floating on the surface. It is made up of many components:

Many of you are not familiar with Homeopathic Remedies. These are very high dilutions of substances that stimulate the immune response. Chances of side effects are extremely rare. There are no problems with interactions between Homeopathics and Western Medicine, drugs, herbs and supplements or foods.

I chose to combine Homeopathics that provide drainage with the greatly diluted Gulf Sea Water. This helps to eliminate the toxins from the body. When using this remedy for our pets, there are three different, easy approaches for administration. I like to place the drops directly on my dog’s tongue or make a pocket at the side of her mouth and place the drops in there. The treatment is easily absorbed between the cheek and gum, as well as on the tongue.

In anticipation of the rare occurrence where a person or pet just doesn’t like the taste of the formula, it can be imbricated. Imbrication is when an area of skin, such as the tummy or thigh, is rubbed with a terry cloth towel till it reddens. You may then apply the drops on the reddened skin. The reddened skin shows that there is increased circulation in the area to facilitate absorption through the skin. My first choice is to give the remedy by mouth.

Animals prove to be excellent case studies for Homeopathic treatment. Their positive response to treatment and continued improvement clearly reflect the benefits of using the appropriate remedy. While we have very close bonds with our furry friends, our words alone will not convince them to have the desired results.
